Is there an ETA on linux port?

I really think this is a good alternative to substance. I tried to install with wine/proton but no joy, theres an SDK missing or something.

I know back in June there was talk of a Linux version. Is that still planned?

Cheers

Hello @karribu and welcome to our community!

The InstaMAT SDK and InstaMAT Pipeline already run on Linux and further support is on the way, however I cannot provide an ETA at this time.

Users on our Discord server have reported that they are able to run InstaMAT through emulation layers on Linux. You might be able to ask them for some assistance on the InstaMAT channel over there.

Thanks!

Here is InstaMat announcement stating Linux support

We’re right at the gate of 2026, so can we please know roughly when InstaMat Studio’s support on Linux is about to come, please? I’m running it in Wine and it works, but it’s got its hiccups and hangs. A native distribution is due to work way better.

Thank you and Happy New Year

Hello @DonnieAlex,

Providing Linux support for InstaMAT is super important to us, and we’re working as hard as we can to have it out ASAP.

I’m glad to hear that it is working in Wine. We’ll provide more information as soon as we can.

Thanks for your patience, and Happy New Year!

hi
I’m back here asking … are there any news in regard to Linux support?
I am asking because the guys at Alma Linux have started a SIG called Media & Entertainment, aiming at the use of Alma Linux for these kinds of jobs. If you folks would get in touch, it might be beneficial to both projects.
(and most importantly, avoid the off chance of InstaMAT being first released based off Ubuntu… just saying…)

Hello @DonnieAlex,

I have no news to share regarding Linux support at this time.

I’ll pass this along internally.

Thanks!

For future reference, as of the latest 2025 release, Instamat works perfectly fine using wine/proton on Linux.

I’d recommend using Lutris to install the application and let it handle (most) dependencies etc. Once installed you’ll probably be met with the SDK error as OP mentioned because the install is missing the Visual C++ libs.

Install the vcrun2022 package via Winetricks/Protontricks and it should run perfectly fine.

Thank you @Nemnem and welcome to the community, that’s really helpul!

The approach mentioned by @Nemnem didn’t work for me, but I managed to get it running using Bottles and their soda runner

Yes i know, I’ve been running InstaMAT through wine ever since day 1.
But adoption in pipelines can be achieved only through native software. If you’re running it commercially on an unsupported platform, chances are that the time you need support, you would be denied it because you’re running it that way

Yup, its janky for me on compatability, really wishing for a native linux version.
