From Substance painter to InstaMat and other things

Hello all,

I’m a long time Substance painter user trying to expand my knowledge with different tools. I have only just started using InstaMat and am struggling a bit. In substance there is the polygon fill mode for selecting faces and seperate meshes, It’s really useful/quick for masking specific areas of the mesh.

Is there an InstaMat equivalent for the polygon fill mode? The closest I have found is the mesh UV shell but that selects the UV islands.

Additionally are there any resources or tutorials that help you learn InstaMat for those making the switch from substance?

Thank you.

Hello @Quack and welcome to our community!

Great to hear you are trying out InstaMAT. For what you want to achieve, try the “Mesh Normal Mask” and set the “Angle Tolerance” to 0. This will allow you to mask based on single polygons.

As for resources, check out our YouTube channel under: https://www.youtube.com/@Abstract-Official

You can find a lot of videos there showcasing different workflows. The documentation offers a lot of insights too. You can find it under https://docs.instamat.io/

You could also take a look at the Tutorials & Eduction section of our forum:

Hope that helps and have fun with MAT!
