Bug/Issue: Custom PNG files in packages unusable for brush channels

Hi there,

I hope my post is in the right location here. If not, please move it to the bug section so it can be seen by the developers.

I have a real problem using PNGs in my project in InstaMAT Studio v3.1 (Build: b0df13c).

Short description of the problem:

Adding PNGs into the package.
Then, dragging PNGs to brush channels displays them repeated instead of as a single image.
Directly dragging identical PNGs from an external file location to brush channel slots works as expected.

How to reproduce:

  1. Start a new Asset Texturing project with a simple plane mesh included in the package (no template).
  2. Add a new Curves Multichannel Layer brush layer.
  3. Paint a curve with some points.
  4. Switch to the Layer Channels of the active brush layer.
  5. Open the scene package and add an external PNG file by drag-and-drop. I used a grayscale 1k image.
  6. Drag the new PNG from your package to the Image channel of your brush.
Result: The image will be displayed repeated/buggy?. See Screenshot 1.
  7. Another try: Replace the brush image channel PNG now by dragging it from your external location directly on your hard drive (not from the package). Use your file explorer for this f.e.
Result: All works fine and as expected. See Screenshot 2.

So my question: Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug? Trying to use custom PNGs from packages doesn’t work for any channel (Color, Normal, nor Graph resources supporting bitmaps).

I would like to use packages to add bitmaps to my projects.

Hope for help.

Regards from Germany, Chris

Hello @CWernerArt,

Thank you for the very detailed description/bug report! I tried your steps to reproduce the issue, but for me it seems to work fine. Does this happen everytime you try to drop an alpha map from the package into the image input of your brush? Would you be able to send me the alpha map you are using?

Alternatively, you can try to click on the pen icon next to the image input:

After that click on the “Show Objects from the current Package” icon:

And select your alpha that way. Does this work?

Thanks!

Thank you for the fast response. Unfortunately this doesn’t work. I tried it.
I’ll prepare a short video for you and place it here.

Meanwhile you find the file I use attached here.

Best wishes, Chris

Here’s the announced video to reproduce, what I do.

Thank you a lot

Thanks again for the detailed info and the alpha! We’ll try to reproduce this and I let you know when I have more information regarding the issue.

Thanks!

If you can’t reproduce the problem, drop me a line and I will send you my project.

Thank you, Chris
