Hope everyone, hope everything is going well in the community around the world and over at Abstract.
I just wanted to say, I’ve started learning InstaMAT a week or two ago and have been playing around with the different modes. However, asset texturing has been quite frustrating to start with. I almost did everything to ensure that the model gets meshed properly but to no avail. Hence I wanted to ask here to see if someone can help.
When I bake the high poly on to the low poly, I get artifects all around the edges as if I made seams or cuts all over the edges where even seams or shap edges don’t exist.
I checked a couple of times before exporting if there’re any sharp edges or if there is anything that is not right and fixed them outside of InstaMAT Studio.
I’ve even playing around with the bake settings trying different settings and also followed some tutorials to try different ways but again to no avail.
I’ve been stuck here and would like to get some help if possible.
I’ve also noticed that tangent normals are making the issue worse, but when I get rid of it in the bake, with or without the tangent, the details of the high poly are NOT being transferred or baked on to the low poly anyways.
In addition to that, just to let you know that the mesh has no problems becasue I’ve put it in Substance Painter and it worked without any problems.
I’m a fan of InstaMAT Studio to be fair and don’t like Painter but tried that because I wanted to check if the problem is with the mesh but it tunred out that it was not.
Now, I may have done something wrong in the settings but don’t really know how to check but as I said I tried many many options and ways and settings.
Last, I also wanted to check if everyone has the 2k limit on resolution in the bake settings. I can export in 4k and preview in 4k but not during bake. Not sure why.
Would you be willing to provide the high and low poly models for us to test internally? You could provide links to the assets here or I can initiate a DM if you prefer to send them privately.
Also, can you elaborate more on what you’re referring to with the 2k limit on resolution in the bake settings?
Thanks for reaching out, and I hope everything is going well with you as well!
Yes, please go ahead and send us a link. The shape of the mesh I exported was very basic (a cube with some chamfered edges and a couple of extrusions and bumps). The main reason for making that was to test and practice InstaMAT Studio. I can definitely send you the low and high poly meshes to try for yourself as well as a screenshot of the settings I used.
Also, InstaMAT is not allowing me to bake the textures in 4K or 8k - only 2K or below, not sure why!
Thanks for the additional information @MoXD. I’ve gone ahead and sent you a DM.
As for InstaMAT “not allowing you” to bake the textures, how does it prevent you from doing so? Do the options for 4k and 8k appear in the dropdown menu? Are you using the CPU or GPU baker?
Thanks for answering my questions and for your help in investigating this matter!
Thanks for mentioning. I’ll pass this along to the team. You should be able to find DMs in the inbox located in the bottom of the sidebar under “Messages”.
If the DM hasn’t come through we can look at other ways of sending the files.
