📢 Abstract Rolls Out 2D Painting for InstaMAT, Giving Artists Complete Creative Control

InstaMAT’s July 2026 release is out!

This update brings 2D painting, along with performance improvements and new node capabilities.

  • :artist_palette: Native 2D Painting: paint directly on a mesh’s UVs in a dedicated 2D view alongside the 3D viewport, with full UDIM support for viewing and painting across every tile seamlessly

  • :high_voltage: Faster Baking & Autosaving: significantly faster rebaking on UDIM-based and large multi-material projects, plus quicker autosaving on large projects

  • :test_tube: New Node Capabilities: Mesh Bake Light now supports IBL lighting, Tile Scatter/Guided Scatter gain a new Tile Number distribution mode, and a new Normal to Curvature Smooth node delivers cleaner, less noisy curvature maps for masks like edge wear and dirt buildup

  • :bullseye: Improved Paint Projector: a dedicated settings window with slider control over Opacity, Paint Opacity, Rotation, and Clamping
